Galesburg Days

Galesburg, Kansas celebrates its history with an annual celebration held the first weekend after the Fourth of July. A committee of volunteers began the annual celebration in 1990 with activities planned for all ages. Events have included a 5K run, draft horse pull, mud tug-of-war, toilet races, petting zoo, antique car show, kid’s pedal pull, parade, ugly vehicle contest, quilt show, displays of Galesburg and Shaw memorabilia and art work by residents of the community, games for kids, an egg toss contest for all ages, hog roast and evening entertainment followed by a street dance with a live band and fireworks, community Sunday worship service in the park, and a bass tournament.

The celebration has drawn a large crowd sometimes drawing 500 for the evening meal.

Events vary from year to year, based on participation and available volunteers. Donations from businesses and individuals and sale of t-shirts and hats have made each year’s celebration possible.

Jerry Kramer, local history buff, was instrumental in starting the annual celebration and was honored as “Mr. Galesburg Days” for his untiring efforts. He passed away in 2002 but his legacy lives on through the Galesburg Days Celebration.
